Technology: Asics has Gel & Nike has Air. Mizuno has 'Wave'. The hard plastic that is usually found under the archway of the sole, extends in a wave pattern through the heel. This resistance creates sort of a springy response. Good? Bad? Just personal preference like Gel or Air. I happen to prefer less bounce.

Fit & Feel: The soul is cushioned, springy & firm, but the inside padding is soft as velvet. Feels good on my skin. Very nice touch. I don't like a lot of structure strangling my feet while I'm pounding the pavement. Toes need to be able to do what they do naturally - expand. Fortunately, the toe box is ample & has flexible sides. I know the popular thing is 'fits like a glove,' but, unless the material is a flexible as a glove, I want ample toe-room. Don't get me wrong, the shoe is not particularly wide, but, unlike the Nike Free, my toes don't feel like they're on lock-down. They need space, air & circulation.

Minimal: The Wave Precision 11 is sometimes marketed as a semi-minimalist running shoe. Although it's not a 'platform shoe' like the overly-structured Asics Nimbus, the heel does have a substantial rise. If you're looking to ease into mid-foot, barefoot, Chi or POSE running, there are better options that will aid in the transition sans the thickness which may result in heel-scraping. A better transition shoe is the Saucony Kinvara.

Training/Racing: This shoe is substantial enough for a trainer, but light enough for a race. If you're looking for an efficient buy, this is an wonderful shoe.

Mizuno doesn't really advertise their shoes so, for the most part, only runners who've done some research will know what you're wearing. I kind of like this idea as Asics & Nikes are everywhere.

In the end, Mizuno's Wave Precision 11 is a wonderful, sturdy, comfortable, springy shoe for the runner who wants some cushion w/o all the structure, posts, bindings, of more traditional shoes. I wouldn't mistake them for minimal or mid-foot shoes at all, but, aside from the cushioning, the Precision 11s let your feet be & they wear well. I'm 6-feet, 200lbs & I recommend this shoe for training as well as racing. A solid, pleasing, 'insider' shoe.
